Hi I continue my quest for the best CPU for gaming but also as important if not more video rendering!

I currently have an i3 2100 rig with a 7850, seems okay but lacks the raw power when under massive stress like rendering hd video or using blender. so it is time for an upgrade.

MY H67 MOTHERBOARD IS FAULTY!

so i am going to do a much needed upgrade.

The options are the AMD 8320 which i just have a weird feeling about making me really want it.

My other choice is an i5 2400 it is currently cheap, but only have 4 cores not so good for the future!

Please fight it out to help me choose! i sway between the cpus everyday but cant decide.

PLEASE HELP ME....................

Thanks Guys

The i5 2400 is my only option so please try to restrain yourselves from telling to get a different model.

The i5 is £100
The 8320 is £110 not a big difference!

What board can i get for the amd if it wins? i dont want to spend more than £60

Thanks

If you are willing to get a new mobo, the AMD 8350 will be better for Video rendering than the I5. The I5 is a little bit better for gaming though, but not by much.

The 8320 or 8350 hands down! It will destroy the 2400 in every scenario, While the 8320/50 was bashed in the early days for it's predecessor not being on par with Intel's i5 3570K (much much much better than the 2400), nowadays, the 8350/8320 is in a sense, giving the Intel 3570K a run for it's money as it is on par, slightly better or slightly worse than the 3570K.

As for the motherboard, the Asrock Extreme 3 990FX is the best thing out there for around close enough to your price. It is only £20 more but seriously worth it. Just save up and before you know it you have an extra £20. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-990FX-EXTREME3-Extreme3-Motherboard/dp/B005POPQZA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If you are like me and couldn't afford the latest high end 990fx board, then go with a 890fx board, there is no performance difference, they are just AM3+ ready out of the box. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/990fx-sli-am3,2953-12.html I actually own this motherboard http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-890FXA-GD65-AM3-AMD-Motherboard-Gaming-Series-/111032566000 and if you read the reviews, its one of the most stable boards for OC around, the only problem is it requires a bios update to use with FX based chips, but at £61 its a high end board, you will just need an AM3 chip to get it working, as mine did not come with latest bios. Just a thought really, instead of ending up with a cheaper board.

This has 20 minutes left on ebay, and is well worth the money and is "As New" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-990XA-GD55-AMD-990X-AM3-SATA-III-USB-3-Motherboard-/171010486519?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item27d104f0f7 8+2 Phase power too!

Thanks i was already watching it, but it could only support CPUs upto 95w and im looking at 125Watt!

Does this need a bios update or is it good to go? http://www.ebuyer.com/270882-msi-990fxa-gd65-socket-am3-lan-raid-atx-motherboard-990fxa-gd65

Would a 480w psu be enough to power the 8320, mobo, 7850, ssd, hdd, 8gb ram, dvd drive?

It is a little bit sketchy, but if it works with the 2100 and 7850 it will likely work with the Fx8320, I would recomend you upgrade to a high quality PSU like the CX600 and sell your 480W - http://www.amazon.co.uk/PSU-600W-Corsair-CX600-12cmi/dp/B0050N69YI or a even higher quality TX650 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-TX650V2-Enthusiast-Series-Bronze/dp/B004O0P9TO/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1364143555&sr=1-1

What do you think a OCZ 480w 80+ bronxe PSU, Intel i3 2100, Foxconn H67 mobo and XFX 6770 1gb will each sell for on ebay? Would be good to get a little money instead of leaving them in a draw haha

Thanks for all your help so far
