I have a Gigabyte 7970 with stock clocks of 1000/1375 (Non-GHz Edition) And i have flashed one of the 2 switchable bios to a GHz Edition bios (1100/1500) successfully. Although I thought this may unlock my voltage controls but it has not, but the voltage did scale up with the new GHz bios. Is there anyway to unlock voltage controls on the Gigabyte 7970 perhaps a different bios?? or am I just shit out of luck?

I did, but through the instructions of a friend, I'd be willing to give it another go; how does one go about doing that again?

you are out of luck

if its a revision 2 pcb

revision 1 pcb is black revision 2 is blue far as i know

gigabyte have been silently voltage locking these cards

even flashing the ghz bios wont unlock voltage control

and you might find its unstable with the ghz bios

have tried every trick i could on mine for the past couple of months

no more 1200--1300mhz overclocks on these cards any more

still a very fast card but really annoyed me i was sold it under the assumption that they were still voltage

unlocked

Yeah, I'm disapointed. Why have all that cooling potential but lock the voltage? still a very good card though

yeah its still a great card and the newest bios makes the fan idle speed go down to 25%

but just annoyed me that nowhere selling them mentions the voltage locking

even gigabyte wont own up unless you start emailing their customer support about it

i did flash the ghz bios to mine amongst loads of other things i tried

but under heavy gaming it was unstable

the memory overclocks fine--all the way to 1650mhz on mine

but the core wont go over 1025mhz stable
