CAT5E Not Working?

I bought the following products from Scan to run a length of CAT5E cable from my main router to a switch in the hallway:

N-707523 - 100m ICIDU UTP CAT5e Pullbox Solid Wire Straight. N23

NLCN-312 - Newlink RJ45 Crimp Tool Professional Quality

UT-193BGD - 100pcs UTP Male RJ45 Connectors (CAT5/6) Ready

When the cable is plugged directly into a laptop it works fine but when I plug it into the switch and then use another cable coming out of the router into the laptop. It doesn't work.

I've tried various cables, switches, and configurations but it always seems to be that the cable will work going directly to a computer but not through a switch/router.

Is there anything I've missed? are some of the products I've bought incompatible?

Please help, thanks in advance. :)

Hmm... that's annoying you sure it's nothing to do with the cable's plugs they feel really stiff when inserting them into devices.

And the cable plugs go onto the tester, so it will tell if the cable works or not. I could bet, that on of the cables on the far left or far right is not connected. That prevents the switch from identifying the the network type (100M / 1G / patch cable).

It takes practice to make these. If you do not cut the wires exactly right or if you have not fully seated them or you do not fully crimp them it does not work.
Normally people use a tester when they first start so they can find issues. After you make them for a while you can tell by feel if the ends slide on correctly and if you have applied the proper pressure when you crimp them.

The ends are cheap so without a tester cut them both off and be very careful to get the correct color pattern and the wire slides in all the way to the face of the plug very smoothly.

Some devices are more sensitive than others and will not tolerate poorly made cables.

I can see all the cables are touching the end of the plugs, is it possible to work without "identifying the the network type (100M / 1G / patch cable)." ?
