First a little background info:

I am looking for a cheap laptop in the $500 to $600 range

It will mainly be used for school with some light gaming like starcraft 2, diablo 3, skyrim maybe even some new games on low settings

The 2 laptops i have been looking at are the:

1. Acer Aspire V3-571G-6407 $499 at acer.com

http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/pd/productID.2...

2. Acer Aspire v3-551-8469 $499 at acer.com $439 at amazon.com

http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/pd/productID.2...

I really need help deciding the 571 is a dual core but has a better graphics card......I think

and the 551 has a quad core but with a worse graphics card

Can someone please help?

Other laptop suggestions are also welcome

Thankyou

If $600 is your budget and you dont mind Acer, looks like the 730m with an i5 is about the best your going to get.

That looks really good better than what i picked out. Thanks.

Also is there anything particularly wrong with Acer, and I also heard the Amd a10 is good for gaming any suggestions on a laptop with that processor for around 500 to 600?

The Intel/nVidia system is better and much more balanced. Clock speed and efficiency make up for lack of cores. Appropriately it costs more.

Acer isn't really the best quality, but they aren't a bad budget option. A10 is a bit faster than i5 but the 730m is a faster video option. With either cpu the bottleneck(when gaming) will be the video card and the 730m will be less of a bottleneck.
