Pretend for a moment that these are your only choices. I know that with midrange cards there not not much performance loss with x4 for the second card. The gtx 660ti will run $300-320 where the 2x 7850 will run about 325-330. What is the better options here.

Or am I better off with 2x 7770's for about $230-$250

I play games at 1600x900 because I like that resolution.

I like to obtain 60+ fps at ultra-ultra settings with all of my games. I own most new games skyrin.tomb raider, sleeping dogs, farcry 3 etc.

Whats the best option here

Many boards can do this, lots of cheaper Z68 and/or 9xx series+ AMD motherboards.
For example my P8Z68-V LE is capable of running 16/4 Crossfire, though I am only running a single Gigabyte HD 7970 (as of Monday)

EDIT : @OP I'd get the single 660 Ti out of those options. Though If I were you I would buy a HD 7950 as it performs better and is around the same prce if not cheaper, overclock it to HD 7970 levels and you're running any game maxed at that resolution at playable frames.

Get the best solution with ONE GPU only.

Crossfire/SLI introduces micro-stutter. While it's possible to achieve higher frame rates with two graphics cards, this is nearly always accompanied by frame time issues perceived as multiple very short stutters or longer stuttering.

All experts in this area will recommend the best, single-GPU solution. It is for this reason that the new Geforce Titan is recommended by most over the GTX690. The 690 achieves higher frame rates (only in games that work with SLI) but the game play is not as smooth as the Titan's.

HD7000 series cards have a deal with one or two free games. The one I've been recommending is a Sapphire HD7950:

This card appears to be quiet, reliable and reasonably priced especially after subtracting the cost of these two games.

Summary:
Get the best HD7000 or GTX600 that falls in your budget. One card. One card only please. (I did a weird movie reference thing there.. ).

The Sapphire HD7950 above is my top choice if you can afford it.

Reread my post. 16/4 CF will work, I haven't seen any SLI 16/4. Meaning his question is moot as I don't think his board will support SLI 660ti. Reading more replies however I see that I misread the first post and he is only running a single 660TI.

World police thanks for the wasted post.

Seeing as you are such a polite guy who makes fun of people pointing out the forum rules I'll take a break from this thread. Stick to one thread in the future before you incur the wrath of the mods.

Double mistake.
I assumed you had accidentally typed SLI whilst meaning to type CF.

cia24,
Please confirm your components:
- motherboard
- graphics cards
- Power Supply
- Window version
- CPU

Other:
1) *Please also confirm the BUDGET you'd have to work with (assuming you sold your cards already or whatever).
If you already have two graphics cards are you actually considering selling them?

2) If you're considering DIFFERENT graphics cards we are back to the scenario were a SINGLE GPU makes the most sense for smoother gameplay such as the Sapphire HD7950 I mentioned above.

3) Your CPU can be a bottleneck as well.
