My first Toshiba laptop shows under adapter: Intel (R) wifi link 5100AGN and was installed with a netgear modem by telstra. I purchased a new toshiba Win8 laptop with Realtek RTL 872 AE wireless adapter LAN 802. The new laptop loses internet connection and after troubleshooter resets the adapter its ok for another 10 min or longer sometimes. During this time the old Laptop runs perfectly and never loses connection. I did not create a home network but just started using the new laptop. I assume that the new laptop is not compatible with the setting?? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I dont think the distance is a problem. Both laptop sit next to each other. I have to use the old laptop because Win8 will not accept my "Old" MYOB Accounting system. Where would I find the answers for your questions re: frequency and A/B/G/N? Sorry, but I am still learning
