Windows XP usually requires you to provide a driver for SATA ports if they are in AHCI mode. It won't find the drive otherwise. You can either provide the driver (usually on a floppy disk, but may be able to use a USB thumbdrive) by pressing F6 when prompted, or switch the SATA ports in the BIOS settings to IDE (or Legacy) mode.

Basically, AHCI mode is a different way for the drives to interface with your computer. It adds features such as the ability for the drives to organize received commands to reduce wear and increase performance (Native Command Queueing).
To get a driver, you will need to check with your motherboard manufacturer.
