Can somebody tell what components do I need to run Battlefield 3 at a minimum frame rate of sixty frames per second at ultra settings without anti aliasing on a 1360×768 resolution? I will upgrade to 1920×1080 later.

I would reccomend nothing short of

Core i5 3570k or AMD 8CORE
GTX660ti or Radeon 7870
8GB of RAM

I have a budget gamer I recently built that I just listed on ebay that runs BF3 on Ultra with smooth frame rates at 1920x1080. It is a mini tower with an Athlon II X4 640 and an EVGA SSC GTX 650ti. That should give you an idea of what is minimally needed at 1080p. 720p will, of course, be less stressful.

Btw, if you are interested in checking out my PC, PM me.

Hey, if you don't plan to OC, get a lower end i5. It will offer nearly identical performance (Like the i5-3330p) but comes cheaper.

http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph6837/53685.png

That chart shows the 7850 (not 7870) is about the minimum you need to get 60 FPS Average (Not minimum frames) from BF3).

If you demand minimum frames never go below 60FPS on Ultra at 1080p, you might be spending more than you want, thought without a budget posted, I don't know.

Do you know if you are sensitive to frame drops, or have you just heard that that is what you should get? From my experience, so long as frames are consistent, and above 30 at all times, then it isn't distinguishable from 60FPS. That said, the 7850 is the card to get now a days, considering price / performance.

Yes, I'm sensitive to frame drops, I can even tell when the frame rate drops to like 57, I don't know how... Must have SUPER POWERS!

What do you think about this one:
Corsair Force GT 120GB (Games+Win8 and I hate HDD's)
Seasonic S12 II 520W
MSI Z77MA-G45
Intel Core i5-3350p 3.1GHz
Kingston HyperX 2×4GB DDR3 1600MHz
Windows 8 64-bit

That i5 will certainly let your min frames drop lower than 40fps, especially in larger multiplayer maps. If you want to run the settings you are describing in only campaign, fine, a 7850 and that i5 would do. If you are planning on 60fps min in larger multiplayer maps, you need at least a 7950, and either 8350 or 3570k in my honest opinion. Those large multiplayer maps are rough on your system when alot is going on. Even my system (which sees 150fps min in campaign) still drops down to 55fps in the largest multiplayer maps.

I like the SSD, RAM, and PSU choice otherwise in that above setup.

Well, I won't play on servers with more than 24 players if that CPU will run at 40fps min, thanks anyways :p

Hahah yea its ridiculous, if you are staying away from those 64v64 maps than you should be good with that i53350 and a 7850 2gb.

Since you still haven't given a budget, it's not easy to recommend anything.

Chrisapf07, that i5 is hardly different from a 3570k. Either you are assuming he is OCing, which he didn't say he would, and I explicitly recommended the i5 3330p in the case of him not OCing, stock to stock, they are nearly identical.

As I also already said, the 7850 is the minimum you need to get an average of 60 FPS. I know you asked for the minimum being over 60, but without a budget, I have to assume you don't have all the money in the world. A 7970 would be my choice, with the 3330p (I don't OC) if I had to ensure frames didn't go below 60 at 1080p.

Yea you are right Rob, I was assuming he might go for an overclock. I looked at some comparison's between those two cpus and they are surprisingly very similar in performance. Online I still see fps dropping below 60 in some cases with those cpus and a 7850. I've been playing this game alot and am always watching and recording my fps.
