Hi there,
I recently bought a 5850 that was either working or not working(unspecified) for cheap. I plugged it into my pcie on my mobo and it came up with error 2e. Assuming that it wasn't working I took it out and put my working 6870 back into the mobo pcie slot. There is now no output display from the 6870. I have two working 6870's, I've now tried them both to no avail, I've double checked all connections, psu is fine, tried swapping out ram etc and tried multiple pcie slots. I can hear the computer booting to windows(hard drive loading) even though there is no display. Any ideas what this could be? Shorted pcie? Hopefully not a new mobo! Thanks.

Solution
Ok turns out one of the pins on the mainboard connector from the psu was slightly bent and wasn't delivering power. So if anybody has problems with a 2e error on an msi 890fxa gd70 check your mainboard connector, it could be the problem :)

This can be marked as solved, I'm not sure how to do that.

I've tried clearing the cmos already to no avail, and normally if the card isn't installed with drivers or anything like that the integrated graphics take over and display when connected into the video card hdmi, but this time it's just black screen. It can detect the hdmi is plugged in, as screen changes from "check signal cable" to "no signal". The cards were working in the pc before I removed them to plug in the 5850.

I don't have a speaker unfortunately. I know, sounds grim. No error messages on the motherboard display though, I think that means it's fully booting (Has a dual 7 seg status display for booting sequence status).

Actually just noticed something interesting, if I remove power to the graphics card but leave it plugged in to the pcie the fan spins up slow on the card (still getting power through pcie) and the board displays the 2e error on the onboard 7 seg. I'm pretty sure that when I did this before the integrated graphics took over display through the graphics card hdmi. Now it's just black screen, doesn't sound like it's booting (only with graphics power disconnected). Been trying to find information on 2e error, but it seems quite generic. Also if I remove the graphics card altogether I get 2e error as well.

Ok, gave the fifth PCIE port a try with the same result unfortunately, I've got a feeling that the on board graphics is fried. Does anyone know would this affect the graphics card output( When on board graphics isn't supposed to be used)?

Yeah card fan spins fine, not overspeeding, just spins up then calms down and you can hear the hdd booting, normal temperatures showing on seven segment (Gets past 2e error) when gpu is plugged in and powered.

I have no idea why but the system has just resumed working, I unplugged some of the connections on the main board and gave the graphics card a wiggle, but I'd already done this 6 or 7 times already. Got a feeling there must be a dodgy connector somewhere. Great relief to have it working though. Thanks for your time and help! If any more problems arise I'll keep this thread updated, and I'll post any solutions as well.
