Bitlocker - Cannot Boot After BIOS Update

I updated the BIOS on my MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3) motherboard without thinking about my Windows 7 64 Professional installed C drive being encrypted with Bitlocker, which I use no TPM, but use a keyfile on a USB drive to authenticate, and then a logon password at the Windows screen.

So from what I understand, I was supposed to turn Bitlocker off before doing the BIOS update and whatever else, but I didn't.

Now when I go to boot and it gets to the Bitlocker boot screen, instead of continuing the boot process it goes to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. When I press a key to continue the boot process, it starts to load and then a blue screen pops up and disappears before I can read it, and then the process repeats itself infinitely.

I do have the recovery key, but when I enter the number it goes to boot but fails again.

I assume that Bitlocker is locking the drive because of the BIOS update.

This is my boot drive, and has all of my important data on it, which is not backed up.

Is there a way for me to be able to boot back into my system? If not, is there at least a way that I can unlock the drive and recover my data?

Again, I do have the recovery file on hand.

  1. Hi,
Check the SATA setting in BIOS. If AHCI, set it to IDE.
