Does amperage matter when buying a new power supply?

Hi

I would like to know if amperage matters when buying a new power supply. My current power supply has these specs.

+12v @ 19a, -12v @ 0.8a, +5v@25a, +5vsb@2a, +3.3v@18a

i know that 12v rail is what i want and should i buy a power supply with higher 12v amperage? or same? or lower?

yes it matter but it also depends on what your using it for...it will tell you the wattage of each Voltage plain so you know if said plane can handle the components you wish to use. also get a quality supply like seasonic, xfx, PC power and cooling, corsair...cheap psu's kill more PC's

what is your usage model...what parts you have for your pc? can help more if i know.

my computer is a hp p6302f with a power supply model of atx0300d5wc i also installed a geforce gt 630 which is running fine. i hope what im telling you is correct.
  3. 300W/19A is more than enough to run a GT630. IS there a reason you looking to upgrade or is this just a general question?
  4. well the PSU you have is not the best and the wattage is low 300w...i would get a new PSU if i were me but just cause of qualtity....is there a reason you need more wattage? if so as i said before seasonic, xfx, pcpc, corsair...

another hp upgrader...you need a psu with 450w-500w and at least 30A on the 12v rail with a pci-x power connector. the 630 is not a great gaming card. people use those for running movies and facebooking. your hp has a good cpu and hdd. so depending on your resolution and the games you play id say a seasonic 500W and a 7770.
  6. This is just a general question as I am planming to upgrade. Anyways thanks for all your answers it has been very helpful
  7. You only need a new power supply if/when you decide to upgrade the video card to something higher than a GTX650 or Radeon 7750. The current HP power supply is fine until then.
