I am wondering if processor will make a difference. The computer will be used mainly for gaming.

Other specifications are :

Graphic Card : Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7870 HDMI OC Edition 2 GB GDDR5

Motherboard : asrock z77 extreme4

Ram : 8Gb ddr3 Transcend

Cooling : corsair H80

Though i am not sure about the motherboard(read some bad reviews about asrock).

Any Suggestions on motherboard (i plan to overclock).

3750k is the best you can get of the two....the only reason to go amd would be if you used a lot of heavily threaded programs. only then can an amd cpu keep up. clock for clock, core for core amd is slower

The comments on newegg are just dumb, I have one of these boards and I love it. Got a 24/7 4.7GHz OC on it and its stable as can be.

As for your original question? What was it?

I prefer the I5, but the AMD will run just as fast(or close to it) in gaming. The AMD does use a lot more power though.

I have seen the i5 will smoke the FX post a lot and must say I believed them untill I built my latest rig and test it completely untrue in every way. Beside spending more money on an intel rig I gained nothing as far as performance. The FX-8350 will play every game just as good as a i5 3570K. Do not get me wrong I like the new rig it is just that it is really not any better gaming wise than ether of my FX rigs I have a FX-8120 and FX-8350 and both of them can keep up with the 3570K in every game I have. But until I built one I was starting to believe the hype but sadly it is just that hype.

Look I mostly agree that the 8350 can keep up, the 8120 CAN NOT in CPU intensive games. I doubt your tests are as comprehensive as hundreds of tech sites on the interwebs... Try playing a 64 player BF3 map. You will see the FPS is just lower on an AMD based system than on an Intel "equivalent".

always nice to hear from someone who has rigs of each. i use to run both amd and intel when i ran 4 pcs (desktops)....now i just run 2 and both are intel so i can only really say for sure on i7 920 is just as good as my 3930k as far as FPS go with same GPUS. maybe a difference of 5-9 frames which is hardly relevant.

what about an Intel Xeon? you get the 8thread that's described in the video, it'll be faster" than the amd. I use one.

the xeon is a server CPU....meant for buisness/workstation use. its better for things like math when you can't afford even the slightest error (think scientific research). its almost always overkill for a home system.

lol swifty... Actually you are complecating it with server hardware that just is not meant for desktop use.
