I want to use hard disk 24x7 , for heavy write loads

I have just shortlisted this drive...WD RE4
but i want to know its quality & various specifications :-

1) What is about RE4 (Raid equivalent 4) , is it worth considering Raid 4...?
what is Raid all about....? & specifically Raid 4...?

2) Which ONE should i go for 1tb Or 2tb version
also WD RE4 2tb version costs double the 1 tb version.....
unlike seagate sv35 in which there is noT much difference in cost between 1tb & 2TB

Also please explain the high cost of WD RE4 as compared to seagate Sv35.

The Western Digital RE series is Western Digital's SATA and SAS enterprise storage solution lineup. They're outwardly very similar to the Western Digital Black SATA consumer storage solution lineup save that they are most likely subject to stricter quality control measures and testing.

The Seagate Sv35 is a lineup specifically tuned for video surveillance systems which require a large number of small writes to be performed continuously in real time.

If warranty is your concern, the 5 year warranty on the RE4 is also available on the WD Black and WD VelociRaptor consumer solutions. The VelociRaptor has a much higher rotation speed (10,000 RPM rather than 7,200 RPM) and is generally considered to be the highest performance SATA solution available to consumers.

There are much faster hard drives with rotational speeds of 15,000 RPM but these are both pricey and generally not available on the SATA interface. If you want something this fast, you'll need to use a SCSI Ultra320 controller or SAS controller.

If you let me know what your particular use case is, I'll be able to provide better advice.

I am Heavy Downloader,,so my computer is on like forever, downloading various stuff....hence looking for 24x7 equipped hard drives..which consumess less power , stay silent & no heat issues

Also 7200rpm is enough for me, 10krpm like WD veloci raptor causes heat issue & not reliable for 24 hours usage & seagate cheetah & savio offers 15krpm which uses other interface than sata & same heat & reliabilty issue is there

Hence Only WD RE4 V/s Seagate SV35..which is better??...considering high writeloads for continuously 24 hours

& What is about WD....RE4 (Raid equivalent 4) , is it worth considering Raid 4...?
what is Raid all about....? & specifically Raid 4...?

Looking at your other thread, you're basically wanting a drive to handle 24/7 torrents at 100Mbps - is that correct?

IHMO you're not needing an Enterprise level drive for that. Go with the WD Black. You get all the performance you need and a 5 year warranty as Pinhedd says. One thing to note is that WD Blacks are on the noisy side. I've used a few and writes do give a louder click/tick noise than many other drives. If that's an issue for you then WD Reds are quieter, cheaper and still built for 24/7. They're a little slower (but still plenty fast enough for you) and you only get 3yr warranty - I believe - you'd better check.

RE Your questions:
1) "Raid Equivalent" - Wikipedia Raid will tell you all you need to know. Basically it uses multiple disks to (in most cases) protect your data should a disk die on you and (in some cases) increase performance. The RE4 drive is not itself RAID, rather it is specifically designed to be used in RAID arrays.
2) 1tb or 2tb? Only you can answer that. How much space do you need? The differences in performance and reliability between the two will be negligible.
