Allocating unallocated Partition

Using Windows 8 64 bit with a 3.0Tb drive. The C:\ drive is 2048 Mb and there is 746Mb unallocated. If possible I want to convert the unallocated space into a partition. It is not possible to do anything via the Disk Management tool-when you right click on the unallocated segment no options are available other than 'properties' and 'help'.

I am not sure how to proceed or what software to use. The motherboard is an ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 and supports 3Gb drives. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think your hdd was initialized using MBR.
MBR doesn't support hdd size greater than 2TB.
You need to use GPT for to use hdd greater than 2TB.

need to look in the windows 7 64bit downloads as its not listed in windows 8

or a free partition software like easeus

Use the free edition of easeus partition master http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm
