Hi! I've just bought a new power supply from Ballicom 2 days ago, and I've only just started to notice this yesterday. There is like a high pitched whine/whistle coming from my power supply! This even happens when the computer is off! When the computer is off, it makes the noise, but when I unplug the 20+4 Motherboard power cable, the whining stops! This wasn't happening with my other power supply! It's also a bit quiet, but it's noticeable when the PC is off
So my question is, what could this whining be, and should I worry about it? Is my brand new power supply going to die on me 3 days after I bought it?

My new power supply is the Corsair CX750M by the way. Also, I've been told that I have a 3 years warranty with Corsair, do I have to register the power supply or something before I get my 3 year warranty, or do I get the warranty the instant I've bought the power supply?

Solution
Easy enough to check, look up PSU coil whine using your favorite search engine. In many cases coils whine is not a reason for RMA (since the PSU operates fine) but in some extreme cases, RMA would be authorized. Coil whine can sometimes be eliminated by changing the load on the PSU
If that noise is coming from your powersupply, I would get it out of your machine ASAP! I assume if you put your old one back in all is normal again?
You can submit an RMA request to online Corsair: http://www.corsair.com/support/technicalsupport/
I believe all you need is your receipt/proof of purchase. They might ask you to try certain things, or they might just give you a shipping label to return it for a replacement.
Good luck.

The noise you are hearing is known as "coil whine" and is caused by a manufacturing defect in the PSU's coil but other than noise, it should have no negative effect on the operation of the PSU.
No registration is needed with Corsair for the PSU as far as warranty is concerned

I don't think there's mixed responses. Friedman knows what the noise is (which I didn't), but I don't think he's suggesting you keep the powersupply. Correct me if I'm wrong?

As far as I'm concerned, that noise is definitely grounds to replace it whether it's going to damage your computer or not. I'd suggest your RMA it with the link I gave you.
