Hi! We just got connected with a 1MBPS internet plan yesterday and Im having trouble with the download speed.
Loading pages is fast and buffering videos is actually really fast, and especially when I use a mobile android phone.
And I'm also fully aware of how slow 1mbps is.
But when it comes to downloading, I sometimes get a 100kbps download, but it would usually be 30-50kbps and gradually gets slower until it would be 9kbps.
This is really weird and it makes small multiplayer online games (like transformice, assualtcube or osu! that can be played even with like a 512kbps internet) laggy or it logs me out due to "no internet."
Ive contacted customer service, rebooted (unplugging it for about a minute) the modem several times, updated my drivers, no bad wiring (where I live is fairly new), and definitely no virus.
Can anyone help me...?
As Im typing this, Im downloading a song with an average download speed of 7.28kbps. -.-
HELP! ;_;

Be very careful most data downloads are rated in BYTES per second but network speeds are stated in BITS per second. Many times you will get a clue since they are stated "KB" rather than "kb"

Wireless broadband is very tough to say. Although they seldom admit it they do shape the traffic to prevent overload of their towers. This is similar to the "turbo" options some cable companies have that artificially boost their scores on the speed test sites. What many do is you can download quickly for a certain amount of data and then they slow you down. This allows things like web pages and small files to load quickly since they load and then pause while you read them. Since they want to give the best performance appearance to web browsers they do these trickly things. Sometimes you only see this on cell towers that have a lot of load. This varies greatly from provider to provider. Most the newer ones based on LTE still have lots of excess capacity and you don't see this as much. Still I suspect it can happen on those also since their is only so much bandwidth on each cell tower and they cannot let one person use it all to the determent of their other customers.

Note if I read this wrong and you are using DSL for your connection you need to have them come and test the line it is likely you are getting errors.

KB and kb is different? ._.
Well it says KB/s when I download.
And my internetz is trolling me, its now downloading with a speed of 112KB/s. -.-
Then later it will porbably slow down again.
DSL is a line with the phone right? Uhm...Im using a cable internet connection.
Also, which one is kbytes or kbits? the kb or KB?

KB is kilo bytes and kb is kilobits.

That is strange a cable tv type connection tends to not have this issue as much. It could be as simple as they ISP has oversold the network capacity and you have lots of neighbors using it at the same time.

If you have access to your modem you may be able to see the signal levels on your connection. There is normally a screen that shows the connection quality in dB (not at all related to the others we talked about). If you see these numbers change when you have issues the cable company should be able to fix it. Even if you cannot see these on a screen the cable company many times can see them from their end. It can as simple as a loose connection in the cable companies connection box on the street.

I have a WPA2-PSK secured password thing, so the neighbors wont be getting my internet...
Also, this modem doesnt have that screen with number thing.

ARGH! What gives!?
So I tried every possible game that can be online and real-time, AND IT DISCONNECTS ME!
So yeah, we're talking about a 1mbps internet here, and the MMO games im playing can even handle a 512kbps modem.
And video buffering and sometimes download are freaking fast!
What the heck is going on? I dont even really know now... ;_;

The neighbors are sharing the CABLE with you after it leaves your house and goes to the ISP. Everyone is on the same piece of wire and it can only handle so much data total.

I would call the ISP and have them check what they see. They can see if the signal levels are lower than they should be. It can be anything from the cable coming to the house, the splitters, or even the modem.

The most common issue with a cable installation is the use of improper splitters. If you get cable tv and internet you likely have a splitter. To test try to hook the modem directly to the cable as it enters the house. If it improves then you need to troubleshoot the wires and splitters you have installed in your house.

Maybe you're right about the cable sharing part.
But, like I said, this condo is still fairly new, and though we have 40 floors, only a little more than half lives here.
And according to the sales people, there arent much people using the cable thing yet, since they just arrived here 2 months ago, and before that, the only thing available is DSL. So it should be fast
And it is fast! But the problem is the download inconsistencies where it sometimes go so slow as to 10KB/s or become as fast as 100KB/s, the fact that I cant play small MMO's, and DID I MENTION I CANT SEEM TO DOWNLOAD TORRENTS? It would start of slow 0.5, and 1 hour later, it would go in an average of 7KB/s...
UGH! Whats freaking wrong with this internet. ;_;
