I have a Sapphire HD7870 OC GHZ edition card that i had to send in to have fixed due to the screen blacking out.
I went and bought an Asus HD7850 while I am waiting on the other card to come back.
Question is, can I set these in crossfire mode?
I have an ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS and AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8150FRGUBOX with a Corsair 850 watt power supply.

Thanks in advance,

crossfiring cards without identical specs will work but it really isn't worth it, you'll get more fps than you would with one card but the frame rates fluctuate to the point that you perceive it as actually being slower than before, try it for yourself though it's worth trying it out

Well since i have both cards i can give it a try. If there is little difference I'll stick with one of them and keep the other as back-up.

Thanks for the replies.

Here is the compatibility chart from AMD http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_Illustrations/WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg
The 7870 will not downclock, AMD cards work with their own specification, that goes for memory speed, core, everything will work as it should.
