This is what is sounds like. I want the cheapest build I can put together to play 1080p movies on my tv. I will only be driving the TV speakers to start. May get a 2.1 system down the line.

Now I have plex media server running on my desktop pc and I have a roku XS right now playing from the desktop. It works ok but the roku for some reason buffers the first 5 mins of the video several times then it will play the rest just fine. I watched 4 TV shows yesterday and it only buffered the first one and the rest played fine without incident. I am using wireless but there is only one wall between the roku and the router.

I am getting this NAS Now please don't get into why I am getting this I just am, that's not the issue here. I figured I would put this to good use as a media storage system.

I don't need much local storage at all as everything can be stored on the NAS. I don't need a TV card in it at this time as I will run off the cable box. Audio is not an issue either as I want to use the TV Speakers. My hearing is so bad I don't need anything good at all.

I could do 2 things for the media service. Move Plex off the desktop onto the HTPC and run that player and all locally. Or I could get XBMC running and use that. The issue here is the NAS and how Plex or XBMC will see it.

I put together a preliminary build here. Again I will do this on the cheap. There is no storage in that system right now as I was toying with the idea of running XBMC off a usb stick running Linux. But drivers came to mind. So I opted to go back to Windows.

Does this sound like a doable project? I do need to add wireless keyboard and mouse to it to get it going. I will be running Win 7 home on it. I understand I can get some sort of IR remote to use with XBMC but haven't researched that yet.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am getting the NAS for no cost to me (won't go there either. Perfectly legal :) )

I chose the Buffalo adapter and am going to stay with it due to having a Buffalo router and setup will be 2 secs.

I have no knowledge of AMD stuff at all. I do know that AMD APU's work much better off 1866 ram then 1600 so am going to stay with that. Also ram does work better in pairs for dual channel support. Not sure what I will loose going with one stick probably nothing major so I could drop it to one 1866 4gb stick. I just looked and its cheaper for 2 sticks of 1866 then a single stick of 1866

Now the case is nice not sure how it will fit in my unit. I was going to go vertical as I have a lot of open space behind the TV and and put the case in the corner of the unit with some room behind it for airflow.

Mothernoard is not a fit as I need HDMI to go to the TV and HDMI will carry audio out to the TV speakers from what I am told. I also wanted to go itx due to the smallnes of the cases. The case you have though nice is about 7" deeper then the itx one. The rest of the dimensions are very similar.

Your build gave me some good ideas to work off of. I'll tweak my list some. And another thing. I shop exclusively at Newegg. I get 1 day shipping from them based on my location to there TN warehouse plus I am a loyal customer
