hello, I recently purchased an ASUS s550c ultrabook that comes with a 24GB SSD and a 750GB HDD, but just realized the OS is installed on the 750GB HDD and the SSD doesn't seem to have anything on it.. is this normal? or did they make a mistake putting this thing together? :)

Solution
The 24GB solid state drive is used an ssd cache. It is not meant to be used as a standard ssd.

The Microsoft Windows operating system, all software applications, all utilities, and anything else you might have are to be installed on the hard disk drive. The information is readily available in the owner's manual and online at the ASUS web page for your ultrabook.

thank you, greatly appreciate the reply! I'll do some reading to on the subject now that I know what to search for.

one note though, I am unable to locate any mention of the SSD drive at all in the manual? I'll take a closer look but all I really remember seeing about drives at all was directions of how to replace the HDD on page 95.

I only took a very quick look at the specs on the Asus web page and the owners manual. Not much info there but at least your question is answered. One of the recurring problems with off the shelf brand name computers is that the companies do not publish detailed technical specifications and information about components.

yes! glad you answered, as I'm only really just smart enough to be dangerous with computers.. I would have probably wound up trying to install to the SSD and messed things up :)
