Is this normal? It seems to complete, or is it just using the F12 backup? No LAN in xp pro device manager and sometimes board doesn't power down.

what is your z68 models? bios version? hardware information?
problem after system being used for a period of time? or it keeps acting like that since you have it?

This is a new build. I can't (windows) see onboard LAN in task manager so its dead? If I insert a seperate lan card it works. So I tried to reflash and hence my post

go to your bios to check the onboard lan is not being disabled.
make sure to enable it already, or just set all bios optimized default if you are not using raid, or some important change for configuration.
after returning default, enter windows to check device manager again.
make sure you install lan driver with the latest update on this model.

Been there done that dozens of times! Stuff I have tried.
Reinstall os , defraged, ckdisk
reflash bios
one stick of ram
change mouse and keyboard from ps to usb
remove cd rom
change cpu cooling fan to system header
Here is the BIZZAR thing I have found. Some times (and I mean sometimes) if i pull the power, pull cmos battery, pull ram, wait & replace.
With NO LAN CABLE hooked up the orange lan led will light up and stay on. I can boot, shutdown reboot, ect and light will stay on. Doesn't matter it still not in device manager.
Older boards you could see this stuff in bios. If it wasn't showing in bios it shure as hell was not going to be in windows.
