Will this Config Work?

right now I have an old pc...12 year old Compaq 5004 Presario with 768MB Ram,
1.1GHz processor and WinXP w/sp3 OS that works well with all that I have in it but, it's slow.

I am in process of culling hi-speed desktops maybe a gamer such as:
CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GUA270 w/ AMD FX-8120 3.1GHz Processor

I don't do games typically, but I figure if I get a gamer pc then everything else will work much better.
Decisions and info is killing me now tho', e.g., my OS is 32 bit with all the software that I've got
installed.
The new hardware doesn't really care if it's a 32 or 64 bit OS.
questions:
1-Will 32bit programs run on a 64 bit OS, e.g., If I have MS Office Pro 2003 will it work ok?
2-I'm tending to believe that these ultra fast processors with the extra (water)cooling would tend to
be problem makers after a few years of operation. Water is great idea for cooling but inside
a PC?
3-What's the guarantee it won't be a problem? None I guess.
4-I wonder if I can install my own HD with my OS on it along with a second Slave HD into the new PC and also have the 1TB HD that comes with the Gamer PC be an internal backup also used as
as slave, or is that possible and they just format their HD?
5-I also want to re-install my 3.5" floppy, my own DVD player/recorder and CD player/recorder; are
these doable?

The following is the specs with some added info in parenthese:
Operating system: WinXP w/sp3
Processor: 3.1GHz Turbo Core AMD FX-8120
Motherboard: AMD 970
Socket: AM3+
Cache: 8MB L2 (very good for gaming)
Memory: 8GB DDR3 SDRAM (I would like to have 16Gb-doable?)
Hard drive: 1 x 1TB SATA
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT520 1GB - PCI Express x16
Audio: High Definition 7.1 Channel Surround Audio (is this standard? options?)
Networking: Ethernet
Expansion Slots Total (Free): 2 (1) x pci express x16, 2 (2) x pci express x1, 2 (2) x pci, 4 (2) x dimm 240-pin, 1 x Optical S/PDIF
Storage Controller: Serial ATA - 6.0 Gb/s
Chassis: Thermaltake Commander Mid-Tower Gaming Case
Ports: 2 x USB 3.0, 8 x USB 2.0, 1 x keyboard (PS/2), 1 x mouse (PS/2), 1 x Ethernet (RJ-45)
Power supply: 500 Watt - AC 120/230 V (50/60 Hz)
Model: Gamer Ultra GUA270
Included items: Gamer Ultra GUA270, Xtreme Gear USB Mouse, Xtreme Gear USB Keyboard
(this is probably a dumb question but are these standard, i.e., are they "required" for a gaming PC? will non-gaming above items work, but just not very well?)

If anyone can help out, sho' wood bee nice! :>)

I thick you should DIY, the 8120 was a last gen AMD bulldozer and was not that great

1. Yes 64bit supports almost all 32bit apps
2. They will work fine but the pump is just another source of failure
3. Crosair has a warranty of 5 years on their coolers, antec I dunno
4.You can do that
5. There should be enough 5.25" spaces but dunno about floppy

Standard items work fine too

Well since you don't really "Game" much, here is an option to consider (assuming you would build it yourself):

AMD build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Biostar TA990FXE ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($134.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($47.98 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7770 1GB Video Card ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Zalman Z5 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $620.90

* Best AMD CPU right now.
* 990FX based mobo that could allow further CPU upgrades down the line (not 100% that is will happen, but you have a better chance with the 990FX based mobo)
* GPU is on the mid-lower level as far as GPU's are right now, but will be a ton better than the GTX 520 listed in the pre-built build.
* PSU is overkill for this build, but will allow you to upgrade the GPU/CPU and any other options that you might have down the road. If you need to save some $ on this build, I can adjust the PSU down to about a $30-40 option (if needed).
* Case has front USB 3.0 ports, so you can hook up a USB 3.0 based HD or flash drive for faster transfer times.

Intel build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($164.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($94.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($47.98 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 7770 1GB Video Card ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Zalman Z5 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $570.91

* Quad core CPU without the iGPU (if that matters)
* Mobo will allow OC'ing of the CPU (if you get one that will down the road), otherwise there are other (cheaper) options.
* The rest of the build is the same as the AMD build.

Also you would have to add an OS to either build (~$90 for Windows 7 64bit). Some people have cheaper options (Students, i.e.), so you might get it cheaper.

The FX-8120 or FX-8350 would be great for a gaming PC do not let any one tell you different! I have two AMD rigs one is a FX-8120 and the other a FX-8350 plus a intel i5 3570K and both AMD rigs can keep up with my i5 rig with no problems at all. As for the floppy drive you will be hard pressed to even find a motherboard with a floppy drive port on board anymore let alone a IDE port.
