Potential MOBO and/or GPU seating issue

I recently ran into issues that look a lot like a failing GPU- artifacts, tearing, locking on one color, and crashing. I went through elimination tasks to confirm the issue, and thought I had confirmed the GPU as being dead. However, every time I remove the GPU and re-seat it the problem disappears until I shut down my computer. I am wondering if the problem is actually with the MOBO.

I do not have a second similar GPU to confirm the issue, and do not have a second computer to test the potentially bad GPU on.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a similar issue. If so, any direction or comments will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I can't rule out the board, but I've observed similar problems and it was the card. Really, you just need to ask a buddy to let you plug your card into his rig. That's the only way to know for sure.

While I don't suggest trying this until you've replaced the card, but I managed to fix mine by cooking it in my oven to reflow the solder. Mind you, the chances are pretty good that you'll just burn it to chark. Google it a bit if it interests you.

Thanks! I considered the option if it turned out to be the GPU. On a lark, I tried the PCI x4 slot and everything has been working since. As such, I currently believe it is the PCI x16 slot on the MOBO.

Thanks again.

How old is the board? You may be able to make a warranty claim.
