I'm looking to customize a pc optimized for audio production and casual gaming. As I understand more about pc builds I know gaming rigs are usually not quiet and get hot. I'm looking for a balanced build that can handle med-high gaming (starcraft 2, skyrim, wow) while has quiet cooling system and what not for when its time to mix audio ect. Might buy through cyberpower or build myself, but I would need to study how to do that since I have no prior knowledge. My budget is about 1200$ need monitor. Any build suggestions are greatly appreciated! Peace

+1 I always keep suggesting Xeons but people always want to OC :p

Changed the ram to a comparably priced 1866mhz kit
Added an 212+ as the intel cooler does get a bit loud at full load
Case left unchanged as more of a personal pref

Looks like a solid build to me. Is windows 7 better then 8? I see a lot of people having issues with 8 and I'm just wondering coming from a mac. And would you recommend this tower? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-400r ..I know its a personal preference, but just wanna make sure it wouldn't conflict with this build. Thank you all for the info!

Sorry bout that I would be using pro tools, native instruments maschine, some plugins, and maybe cubase. I want it to be a DAW that isn't compromised by gaming and lasts a good amount of time so as long as that is this build I'm happy. Already have an external audio interface so don't need to focus on internal sound. Might get a slightly better motherboard if I do this build, but I don't want to stray far away from what was suggested because I am inexperienced. I will consider the 7970 though. This is what I found for a motherboard http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z77extreme6

I am going to follow this build and stick with 670 and the atx mid tower for the case. Just a few questions though should I get a little bit higher wattage PSU for any future upgrades? Also, is the motherboard worth an upgrade from what was listed in the build or is that one good enough? Just being skeptical for no reason lol but again thanks for the help. Looking forward to getting this going!

A z77 mb would let you OC to 4.1ghz as well as provide ability to SLI (cheapest SLI mb is the ASUS p8z77 v lk, great board for price)

For future GPU upgrades, consider getting an 850W PSU

I'm almost sure I'm going with> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/M3tU ..Wasn't too sure what my wattage was at with everything that I'm getting but I'm pretty sure 750w psu shouldn't be too far under or over what I should have. Am not really looking to overclock or upgrade right away just would like to air on the safe side of things. If its not necessary to upgrade the motherboard and what not I might just stick with what was originally posted. What do you think?

Okay so I'll just go with the 550w and h77 motherboard then. As for the video card still thinking about 7970, but I like that you said the 670 was quiet. **editing my posts as I learn more and realize my stupidity lol ..The only thing I ordered so far is the tower you suggested and it looks sweet! Gonna wait till it gets here to start ordering the other parts.

If you could choose one 7970 under $450.00 what would it be for this build? I'm having trouble deciding. This is what I'm looking at> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sapphire-AMD-Radeon-HD7970-GHz-VAPOR-X-Edition-OC-3GB-384b-GDDR5-HDMI-Video-Card-/380466325139#vi-content ..Seems i'll get the best deal if I buy from ebay. Still might just get the 670 if its all I'll need, but I don't really know how to determine that. I guess it comes down to open cl and cuda, but the cards are similar in performance according to the reviews. I'm not really picky and nicer graphics is always a bonus but not at the expense of more wear on the system. Just want to be careful with my investment ;)

you dont really need a ghz edition card. its for those people who want to show off just because they have a ghz sticker attached to their card. a regular 7970 works fine. good ones that are fairly cheap are the sapphire and the gigabyte models

wouldnt buy expensive things off ebay

Yea was thinking that also. Maybe wanted to get one with silent cooling technology or whatever (Its called Direct CUII in some asus models), but Im not really worried about it prob get the gigabyte one as the others are overpriced. Hopefully with all this info I'll be good to go!

Hey TheBigTroll and stickmansam,

why would you guys recommend the xeon over a "k" cpu? is it really not worth overclocking? i want to build my own computer and i want to overclock but at the same time i want a safe and reliable computer. you both seem to be fans of a non-overclocking CPU, and i was wondering why that is. :p

Thanks,
Daniel.
