Hey all I was just recently looking to buy a second card to run sli but realizing That a newer card might be a better idea even though for more money. Dunno just wanted to pick some brains

Solution
yeah, upgrading and spending 2-300$ on a GPU for only 20% more performance isn't worth it (like if you we're already running dual 560ti you wouldn't upgrade to a 670 for 300$ as it's only some FPS more but it cost a lot more...) In your case, the upgrade worth it as the 660ti vs a single 560ti is about 2 times faster so 100% more performance, now it worth some cash...

The 670 is about 10 to 20% faster than the 660ti and it's a lot better if you run multiple monitors and/or 3D or high resolution monitors (more than 1080p) as the 660ti is memory bandwith limited vs the 670 and high resolution (more than 1080p) start to show the bandwith difference from the 670 as it's pulling ahead a lot in this case...

A dual 660ti setup will destroy...

good question, 2 560ti is about the same as a single 660ti. It all depends if you want to buy a 300$ new card or a 100$ used card (or if you can find a new 560ti it'll be about 150-200$)

But SLI scaling is a thing, some games like SLI, other don't even benefit from it... you also want to make sure your motherboard support SLI and have at least an X8 PCI-e 2.0 slot still free on it...

You could sell your 560ti for 100$ and buy a 660ti in rebate for 250 so it'll cost about 150$ from your pocket, the same amount as another 560ti but you'll have room for expansion and great performance in all games (newer 600 series card perform better at physx than older but are slower in CUDA performance if you render video with it)

okay I found a few oclked 560 ti's which would give me a lil better boost but about the same as buys a brand new card that would do the same as two older ones, so I might look into just buying a single new card or even dishing out some money for a set of 660tis or something, Is a 670 worth the jack?

just wondering if I spent the 3 hundred on a new one with only a lil better results would be worth it or just wait a lil and buy a all around better card

I did read another post but reffering to have dual 560tis already and it said was not worth upgrading to 670s but I only have a single 560ti so If I upgraded I should probally go a lil higher, do you know if I should wait for some of the newer lines to arrive

A dual 660ti setup will destroy a single 680 in single monitors 1080p resolution, however if gaming in surround with 3 monitors or 3D gaming, the 680 will destroy the 660ti...

Also the 670 is the best choice right now as it's 100$ less than the 680 and only 5-10% slower

I personnlly think that a 560ti is still powerfull enough to play all games (not maxed out) so it's more on your side, if you feel that you want more, need more, upgrade, if not wait to see the 700 series and the 8000 AMD series (it'll be out mid to late 2013)

exactly, in 1080p a 660ti is enough for any games, you'll not be maxing out Crysis 3 as it would need a 2 titan setup and maybe more but you'll play at all games without checking out the requirements as you'll know that it's ok... (on the GPU side)

You may check the AMD side too (don't know if you prefer Nvidia or you don't mind) as the 7950 is 300$ right now and is more powerfull than the 660ti in general for the same price and you could squeeze another 50$ to get a 7970 that compare to the 670 but for 50$ less

You know Im really not to particular other that I feel like most games I play are geared towards nvidia but cards like that are gonna still play the games and they are cheaper, I might keep my options open then, also while searching cards i see alot of diffrent brands with cards tweaked that are way higher, would something like that be worth getting or buys a better card for the same price, I dunno seeing alot of diffrent options now

Factory overclocked card are mostly a waste of cash as you can overclock yourself to an higher level anyway (as any factory OC is conservative) however factory OC cards comes with better cooler so that's why i would buy an OC card, just for the better and quieter cooler...

On the NVIDIA side, i recommend EVGA in first then ASUS and in AMD cards, Sapphire in first then ASUS too The ASUS DirectCU II cooler is the quieter i've ever used and EVGA cooler is almost on par except at startup (it ramps up to max speed then return to silence) EVGA and Sapphire customer service is exceptional, that's why i'm buying their products, ASUS isn't bad but i've had troubles with motherboards and they are asking a lot of questions before replacing the dead product...

I've never had any issue with Sapphire and EVGA cards and i've used 4-5 of each brand, had 2 560ti from ASUS with no hassle still running in my girlfriend's gaming pc...

well thank you now I just need to decide what means the most to me as far as nvidia or amd but I am looking at the 7970 and 660ti range I dont think anything more than that in the 600series is gonna be worth it right now
