I ran FAR-CRY 3 on my PC and it lagged even in the lowest settings. The specs were -
intel dual core
2 gb ddr2 ram
nvdia geforce GT 9400

Then I upgraded my PC to-
intel core i5(3570)
8 gb ddr3 ram
nvdia geforce GT 9400 (same as above)

The game still lagged on the same settings.

The question is-Was it a waste of money if i did not get any gain in the game and the only thing that matters is a graphic card FOR GAMING?

UPDATE:OK INSTALLED GT 630.GAME WORKING NOW BUT NOT ON ULTRA SETTINGS.THAT'S ONE HEAVY GAME.

Yes and no. No because those are very low end parts that would have a VERY hard time producing playable frame rates, yes because graphics (in gaming single player) tends to be the number 1 bottleneck on low end systems.

I wouldn't return the parts you bought, because buying a high end GPU with the old rig would probably be just as useless. If you still have your old rig, you can test that out by putting a decent GPU (7870 / 660) in the old rig. But that is a lot of money, unless of course you have money to spend.

They aren't worthless, you are just held back by graphics.

The GT9400 is 4 and a half years old, and wasn't exactly top-end to start with. These days, the graphics chips on processors are better really.

Far Cry 3 is a really demanding game, and trying to run it well below the minimum requirements (which are always optimistic) is never going to get you far.

Hypothetically though, if you'd upgraded graphics and not CPU/RAM, you'd probably still be in the same situation, as really none of the components from your previous PC were up to the task (probably, you weren't specific).

It's always important to keep balanced rig,

it's look like your GPU cannot keep up what your CPU can offer....
no other ways than get a better graphic card..

The bright side, that processor & ram could handle 7970 or 680 easily....
