Can you try it on another (neighbour's?) machine? That way it will prove whether or not the drive has failed or your PC is at fault. If it behaves normally elsewhere, use System Restore to roll your system back to a point prior to when you last successfully accessed the disk.

Maybe, you can try to assign a new letter to this drive in Disk Management for activating it manually:
