Rebuilding a Dell 8300 with blown motherboard

Hi, I've never built a computer before, but the motherboard in my Dell died last week and I am interested in whether I can salvage some parts in it?

I understand that Dell's motherboards are proprietary, but would I be able to use a different motherboard if I got a different case as well? Could I remove the CPU from the motherboard into another motherboard? Would the power supply be compatible? It's a Huntkey 460W

Basically, Dell is offering to fix and replace the motherboard for $400, but I am hesitant to pay them any more money, and I am wondering if it might be better to go a different route.

Thoughts?

depending on which cpu u have . you would only need a motherboard a case and a new power supply (dell ones suck badly have 10 on a shelf right now all dead) and maybe some ram . also you would need an operating system. which can be done for less than 400 dollars
