I'll try to make this brief. Basically I just bought a 3D TV and want to hook it up to my Mac Book. The Mac Book only has a Mini-DisplayPort so I'm stuck with a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter. I've searched around internet looking for answers for what HDMI version i need to get optimal 3D quality and found that you need HDMI 1.4 aka High Speed. When I looked at the specs for the adapter I found that it said "HDMI 1.3".

So basically, will this somehow bottleneck my 3D experience? And if it does, what device can I use instead that will read .mvk and .ass files and produce 3D? Will I have to get a new PC with a HDMI 1.4 aka High Speed?

Any help would be appreciated. Also, if this has been asked before I really apologize!

No....it saying that if you use a 1.3 hdmi cable or 1.3 reciever (blu-ray, video card)....you won't get true 3d....it was what i was saying. it will either upscale it for you (faux 3d like upscaling dvd to HD) or it will cut your resolution by a 1/4 so the signal will fit down the 1.3 device. make sense?

Agree I do not think the mini DisplayPort on your Mac Book will get what you want or at least not with a adapter.

I did find this mini DisplayPort to HDMI 1.4 adapter and it claims it supports 3d! It is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-DisplayPort-DP-HDMI-1-4-Adapter-Audio-support-3D-ATI-Black-/130784879863?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1e7362e4f7 . Hope that is what you are looking for good luck.

you need to find the spec of your display port as it may or may not work with 3d as well. i almost forgot sorry. you need a displayport 1.2 port

Completely slipped my mind when I posted that is why I came back but you corrected it thanks. It is getting late I think I need to quit for the night.

Well, acutally. I can run 3D from my mac to the TV, using the 1.3 adapter and the really old HDMI cable... so I guess I'm not limited to 2D.

However, what I need to know is whether it will give me less quality using the adapter and old cable.

yes but is it 1080p3d....720p3d may be possible with 1.3 as it doesn't take as much bandwidth. ill do some research to give you a better answer. also 3dtv will upscale to 3d on any hdmi cable...that is not the same as native rendering of 3d.

According to the TV, it's in 1080p. That's all I can say, I'm having some issues finding any good information on this topic!

Thanks for helping me out, guys!

Okay, so I read the article. Am I correct to sum it up like this? Your output device can have a 1.3 HDMI output, but your TV needs 1.4? Thing is, I couldn't see if they mentioned anything about the cable in between. 1.3HDMI or 1.4HDMI?

Oh right, sorry I'm kind of sleep deprived ;). So basically HDMI 1.4 all the way? How about the Mini-Display port? You guys mentioned it had to be version 1.2? Will a Mac with M-DP v.1.2, connected to a adapter with 1.2 which then is connected to a 1.4 HDMI be the same as HDMI 1.4 all the way?
