Hope somebody can help here,

I have a Desktop connected to my router via an ethernet cable. My girlfriend sometimes works from home and connects to her companies vpn via our wireless. However if i switch on my desktop when she is already connected it boots her off the network! Bearing in mind she has a work laptop that i can't mess with and its running vista, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? My desktop is running Windows 8 and the router is an EE Brightbox router.

Please help! I can't play star wars online!!!!!!!

First you need to make sure there is no conflict with the assigned IP from the router. If any doubts, you can configure the router to give a static IP to your desktop and another one to the laptop's MAC. That way, there will be no conflict between these 2 devices; besides, the laptop might actually need a static IP for the VPN to work properly.
For any other occasional devices (phones, etc) you need to make sure the IP pool of addresses that can be assigned to them is outside of the static ones.

Because you cannot play with her laptop the solution is quite simple, run ipconfig, write down your IP info then manually set your IP to a different address.

Other option is to have her run IP config when she connects to the wifi, not with VPN.. just wifi. See if the IPs are the same, doubt it but it may happen. Don't need any admin rights to run ipconfig. Just select start, run, type in cmd.

found this for info on how to access the network settings stuff in windows 8.
Step 4.b select properties, then select Internet Protocol Version 4 and select properties.. enter manual IP address there
