I have just installed an SSD drive by migrating my old drive over using cloning software. When I change to ACHI mode it boots fine and all the achi drivers are installed without a probem.
If i power down and reconnct my other sata drives and then boot again the system hangs at the windows splash screen.
Please help

excatly where i was going with it
where your plugged in is important....don't use the orange ports. i have a P8t on my other system and they don't work for your regualar dvd drive usage....they are for back-up, hard drives only. if you have your dvd drive on them it will not work

I have SSD Drive and two hard disks connected into the three Intel ICH7R South Bridge ports, one in the Silicon Image 4723 Hardware RAID controller (the orange one) and one in the Jmicron JMB363 controller.

you math doesn't make sense...how can you have 3 drives plugged into 3 intel south bridge ports, one in the silicon image and one in the jmicron....thats 5 drives not three....where is you dvd drive plugged in btw?

Yes I have 5 drives in total
I have SSD Drive and two hard disks connected into the three Intel ICH7R South Bridge ports, one in the Silicon Image 4723 Hardware RAID controller (the orange one)
and one in the Jmicron JMB363 controller.
The DVD Writer is in an IDE port

I have that board and have actually done the same thing.

I used all the intel ports one of the ez-raid(mode RAID 1[jumper] then had to make the setting stick in the bios[change ez raid mode] requiring one poer cycle) ports and the leftover from the e-sata(near the heat pipe) as well. The drive worked fine, but was detected as external disk.

It was a while back and was in RAID mode for the Intel ports.

If i get a chance, I will see if I can try some tests on the board(i do not have it anymore, but may be able to gain access to it for a bit.).

I have managed to get the system working by unplugging all the drives apart from the SSD and then reconnecting one at a time to identify the problem.
I have found that one of my drives causes the system to hang in ACHI mode, I removed it and placed it an external hard drive enclosure and tried connecting using the esata port, again it causes the system to hang on boot and is not recognised if connected after boot. It does however show up if I use a usb port. The other issue relates to the orange sata connector so I have stopped using it and connected that drive to a sata controller card

So after all that faffing around all is okay
