Would I be better off getting 4gb sticks or 8gb sticks for this motherboard? (gaming pc)

I have heard that for a dual channel mobo that multiple smaller ram is better than larger single ram, also what is the best speed of ram? pretty much just as fast as the mobo handles or what?
Lastly what is a good brand of ram? I have looked at corsair and have seen good reviews, but I see crucial ballistix has come out with some new cooling/monitoring system, so are those better? I have heard from some that the amount of ram you have has a big effect on games and I have heard from some that you need no more than 8gb of ram, so I'm just not sure what to think, because I have never built a computer before, but I really want to do it, and do it right with the right parts.

Sorry for long post, I just have a lot of questions as I am just getting into the concept of actually buying components and assembling them to create my gaming machine

Solution
Two 4GB sticks of Corsair 1600Mhz ram will suit you well, no point in paying for faster rated RAM because you must overclock the RAM to get those speeds, plus your mobo has to be rated to handle those speeds. For gaming you wont really notice a difference when your ram is clocked @1333 vs 1600. Save your money and get standard 1600Mhz RAM.

Just get at least 8GB, I would not recommend less.

1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V from Corsair, Crucial, G.Skill. If you're going to get a large CPU cooler, get low profile RAM.

You only need 2x4GB sticks (I've never seen my ram usage go above 5GB and that was with a *lot* of stuff running that I normally wouldn't) but if you really want to you can get 2x8GB sticks.

Just get some 8gb (2x4gb) 1600mhz ram and call it a day. Gaming doesn't have much to do with ram. Honestly 99% of the brands out there are good G.SKILL, Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin, Kingston, Samsung. There are a lot of other ones but they aren't that well know to most people so just get it from one of the brands I recommeded. RAM doesn't even produce much heat, most "stylish" ram, so the heat sinks, are just for aesthetics. If you are just gaming 8gb is the sweet spot. Finally no, it does not have a "big effect" on gaming.
