I have an old dell monitor from and old computer and I want to use it as my second monitor for my current insignia monitor. My graphics/video card is an AMD Radeon 6670 which has one DVI and VGA port. Im using its VGA port for my primary monitor. I dont have a DVI cable for the second monitor, and its VGA. But my motherboard(Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2) has a VGA port. I tried multiple ways to try and configure this so it works but had no luck. I it possible to do setup a dual monitor with the graphics card and motherboard? Ive only gotten one or the other to work but not both.

Geta $3 DVI->VGA adapter and use the 2nd port on the video card.

A lot of motherboards disable on board video as soon as a graphics card is inserted and both can't be used at once. The exceptions are some of the AMD APU processors and some of the Intel processors.

Some older motherboards will disable the integrated graphics if you install a discrete graphics card.

Why not just buy a div to vga adapter?

Upgrade to Windows 8. I have a dual booting system. Win 7 on one side and Win 8 on the other. Very reluctant to dedicate to Win 8 but I have same setup as you . One connection to video card through DVI and the other to MOBO through displayport. Only other Options I have is HDMI and I have no HDMI monitors. When I boot to win 7 only MOBO connection shows up. (mind you I had to activate dual Monitor in Bios) When I load Win 8 both monitors come right up. Assuming your MOBO has the option available in BIOS to allow for dual monitor support WIN 8 seems to be the only OS capable of handling.
