I have a ASUS Ess PC Netbook with a 160Gb 5400 RPM HD. I just bought the Intel 180Gb SSD described above. The ASUS Tech support sent me the following:If the SSD is SATA2 it will work, if it is SATA3, It will not work. Do I stop or can it work?? I have cloned the drive with Intel's Software Migration program with the SSD in an external enclosure. Before I disassemble the netbook I was hoping to get sone guidance.
Thank you

IS SATA2 also called 3.0 Gb/s and SATA3 called 6.0GB/s??
They said that the netbook would not recognize the drive ifit is SATA3, that did not make sense to me unless it is a BIOS issue??

Yes

SATA 1.5gigabit/sec is SATA(sometimes called SATAI)
SATA 3.0gigabit/sec is SATAII
SATA 6.0gigabit/sec is SATAIII

I would have to be a bios/controller issue. I know for a fact my old K8V SE board will NOT see SATAII drives at all unless the drives software(edit the firmware a bit) or jumper setting is set to SATA or 1.5gigabit.

Just for Kicks, I kept the SSD in the external enclosure and went into the Setup of my ASUS Netbook. I Changed the Boot Device Priority as Follows:
1. 1st Boot Device: [Removable Dev]
2. 2nd Boot Device: [ATAPI-CD-ROM]
3. 3rd Boot Device: [HDD:pM-ST9160310AS]
The ASUS booted normally, did not go to the changed Boot Device.
I tried this several times with the same results.

Had a couple of meetings earlier today but just finshed the install.
It worked as hoped, very snappy compared to the Old 160Gb 5400 RPS Seagate HD. The hardest part was to dissassmble the ASUS Netbook. There were more screws and tabs than I expected. Just had to go slow and be mindful of all connections.
Well worth the effort and expense. New life for the next couple of years.
