I am not looking for a new case recommendation yet, just tell me whether or not it will work without any negative effects, or if it is needed inside the case for cooling reasons.

Solution ubercake Mar 25, 2013 It doesn't need to be inside the case. It will work. The only negative effects that can take place are more exposure to dust and anything else that might fall through the fan opening.
