I'll be using a 4gb DDR-3, G-620 1166 system and need to capture the video (no audio) off cable channel 117. Do I just need a TV tuner card? Quality is mediocre so HD is not necessary. Later I'd like to integrate my webcam into the fray to capture motion detected images with audio.

If cable Channel 117 is not encrypted (the *Clear*) your TV 'capture' card will specify its tuner standards, including QAM which is the cable signal modulation.

It will likely include digital terrestrial ATSC and analog NTSC tuners for over-the-air OTA reception. The HVR-2250 card also offers an FM-radio tuner.

What is "the Clear"? Its a signal for the camera at our door of our apartment building. Its not encrypted.

Does that have anything to do with getting channel 117? Pardon my ignorance in this area. And would any analog NTSC tuner go up to channel 117? I thought digital TV started after channel 60 or something. Please advise.

*Clear QAM* = unencrypted cable signal.

Lower-tier basic- and extended-basic cable channels may be either digital or analog.

I simply provided the anticipated full specifications for a TV tuner card. It's up to you to decide in your case if the hardware will meet your needs.
