Hi everyone,

I used Bitlocker on Windows 7 to encrypt an external hard drive. The power to the unit was interrupted several times during this process, and now the hard drive cannot even be seen by the computer. I went to re-partition it in Computer Management>Disk Management, but the drive will not even initialize, yet both Windows and Linux identifies it as a USB mass storage device.

I don't care about the data on it because I've created a backup for the information. All I want is to get it back to working order.

Is there anything I can do using either Windows or Linux to force my computer to reformat this drive?

Diskpart sees the drive as a 0kb volume, incapable of holding information. When I told it to repair the HD, it told me the disk is not initialized.

There are no partitions available to manipulate.

Well, if none of the tools like "SeaTools" works then you might have to go to low level formatting.
Here is a useful tool for that: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool.shtml
You might have to remove the drive from the enclosure and put it in the computer tower temporarily.
Just make sure you write down the letters of the drives in the pc before using.
You don't want to wipe a useful drive..lol
Hope this helps..

I don't know what you mean by 'tools'. It's an ioSafe Solo 2TB fireproof/waterproof USB 2.0,
