fx-4100 wont overlcock

I've been trying to overclock my fx-4100 to 4ghz using AMD Vision control center. when I move the bar to 4ghz and click ok it says that it's at 4ghz however CPUZ says otherwise and says it's at 3.3ghz which is lower than the default ghz. why is this happening?

it downclocks to 3.3 to save power when not under load. run prime95 and see what it goes to.

If it's not doing an intensive task, it might be running in a less than maximum power/frequency state. You could try checking the frequency while doing something more intensive to test this.

You have Cool'n'Quet enabled, which isn't a bad thing as you don't need 4GHz for calculator, run a stress test and see what happens.

You might have a board that throttles the CPU because the power delivery is no good, try overclocking to 4GHz via the BIOS and see if you have more luck.
