Did installing my new FX-8150 break my system?

I've been having some trouble lately getting my computer to run as well as it should. Here's some backstory, I'll try to keep it short, but basically there are a ton of factors here and I'm having a really tough time figuring out what is actually causing the problem.

My system that I'm running NOW:
AMD Athlon X3 440 3ghz CPU
Radeon HD 5700 1gb video card
8gb G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 RAM
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ motherboard
Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

A couple weeks ago I ordered a FX-8150 to replace my old processor for use in games like Planetside 2, WoW, Dota 2 etc. First problem I encountered when I first started up my system after installing it was that my RAM was not being registered correctly. I had four 4gb sticks, all the same type of RAM, in the computer at that point, and it would show up in windows as something like 12gb (9gb usable.) I don't remember the exact numbers, but I tried to switch out some sticks, thinking one of them might have been bad. So I would put in 8gb physical RAM, it would show up as 6gb (3.98 usable)

That was the first sign that something was wrong. At this point my games were running pretty well, as well as the processor should have ran. I kind of brushed off the RAM issue for maybe a week as it was running fine.

But then I started it up one day and it was running HORRIBLY. Absolutely terrible. I tried to play Modern Warfare 2 (pretty old game nowadays, especially considering my system should be able to run it NO PROBLEM) and I got around 10-15fps with constant frame stuttering.

Not knowing what to do I switched out the processor for my old one (the athlon x3) which is what I'm using now. My RAM now shows up fine, but my computer is still running much worse than it was before I ever put in the new processor. I'm out of ideas at this point, so I need some help!

I know that was long, but thank you to anyone who felt like reading through that.

PS: Also, I've had a feeling my case is shorting out somewhere because I've had so many hardware issues over the last year. Not sure if that could be what is wrong, but I'm getting a new case within the next month either way. Thought it might be relevant.

BIOS F6... :(

At this point it seems like nothing is going to fix it. I'm not sure if my video card might be going bad.. Not sure how to check. It is getting pretty old, but I won't be able to upgrade it for a couple months.

You didn't specify your PS Unit, Make and Model.

I have a similar setup but with the FX 8350 CPU instead.

I had to adjust the voltage on the RAM up top 1.6 volts from the default of 1.5 to get mine stable.

I have not checked if I also had to bump up the CPU voltage or not.

Since this made my machine stable it most likley will help with your config too but you may want to look at the PS Unit and see if it is maybe falling down on one or more of the voltage rails due to the increased load.

I'll try to change the timings for the RAM, I'll post afterwards to report if it helped or not. And sorry about that, completely forgot. I actually got a new PSU as well pretty recently, its a Corsair GS700 700 watt, which should be plenty of power for what I'm running.

The only thing I did was to adjust the RAM voltage, I didn't mess with any of the timings at all.

Oops, sorry, misread your post. I bumped the voltage up a bit and it didn't fix it. Any other ideas?

That was it as it worked for my setup.

Perhaps somebody else has some tips to try out.
