I found this on another forum that seems to have worked for multiple people:

Thanks for the tip k.doyle.w. Running these two installs (as per the support page):

...\Steamapps\Common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\directx\DXSETUP.exe
...\Steamapps\Common\DOOM 3 BFG Edition\msvc2010\vcredist_x86.exe

fixed it for me :-)

All-in-all I have to say I'm pretty happy with Win8 (this has been my only hitch). Metro sucks on a big screen, but it's easy enough to avoid.

That is for Steam users, I'm not sure it'll work for non-Steam users, which I don't know which are you.

Not a steam user. But really wanted to play the game looks like it's not going to happen

Have you tried running the game in Win7 compatibility mode?

I think the confusion is I'm not trying to install the BFG Edition its just Doom 3 I believe the original.

i don't have a solution for this problem. i had both updated versions of the VCreadist for 2010 and 2012. uninstalled both of them, installed the 1 from the D3BFG Edition file as well as the Directx install and still doesn't work. I am also using Win8
