Did you get an external card reader that has a USB connector or a card reader that needs to be installed inside the computer?

If it's external just plug it into a USB port on your computer.

If you have an internal one like the one below you need to connect the cable to a USB header on the motherboard. USB headers are usually located on the right edge of the motherboard if you look at it from the back of the computer. They can be in other edges however. The headers are usually labeled USB1, USB2, etc but sometimes say other things like FP(Front Panel). If the built in cable is too short get an extension cable.
