It would be based off your motherboard, since your processor is socket 775, it would mean you can upgrade to DDR2 800 Mhz, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
Can I upgrade it to 8gb?
Most likely not, older machines like that are usually on 32 bit operating systems. which can only use up to 4gb
Thank you very much! So what would I do so that I can upgrade it to a size higher than 4gb?
To upgrade the Ram you would have to buy a 64 Bit operating system. Wipe your hard drive, and reinstall the 64 bit operating system. Which your would want to buy a retail copy not a OEM version. OEM versions can only be tied to one motherboard. So you don't want to spend that much money on a dated motherboard, at least if you bought a retail version you could keep using it in the future.
So you would want to buy this.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DHGMK0/?tag=pcpapi-20 that would allow you to upgrade to 8 gigs of ram. Which would cost you another 120 roughly. So by the time you were done. you would have almost 300 dollars into a ram upgrade.... better off to start buying new components to build a new computer.
