ip adress networking

Control Panel -> Network and Sharing -> Change Adapter Settings. Double click on the icon for the connection (is this wired?). Click on Properties, select Internet Protocol (probably IPV4).

At this point, the most common thing is simply to select Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Through a protocol named "DHCP," your router will assign an available IP address to the machine. You can confirm this by opening a command prompt (Start Menu - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt) and issuing the command ipconfig. look for the IP address.

To assign one manually, you need to click on Use the following IP address, type in an IP address, a subnet mask (if you are only playing with a local network type 255.255.255.0, otherwise ask your service provider), and a default gateway. That will be the hardest part; it needs to be the IP address of your router or internet modem.

A little more information about your service provider, what router or modem you have, or what other network you are trying to connect to, and why you need to enter an IP address, would help us give a better answer.
