Hi, I have just purchased this PC from Dino PC. Basically wanted it for some some gaming use but mainly everday use.

Does anyone know if it would run Rome 2 TW well...

I am obviously going to buy a GFX card,

Thinking of an AMD Sappire HD7770
Vapour X OC

CPU: AMD FX 6100 Black Edition

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX V2

Memory: 4GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (1x4GB)

Hard Drive: 500GB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s

Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA

Graphics card: Onboard Video

Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio

Case: NEW! Fractal Design Core 3000

PSU: NEW! 550W Corsair VS

Warranty: 3 Year SureCare Warranty
Included
Priority turnaround: Dispatched in 3 working days

Total:
£413.52

Will this be good enough with that gfx card for high settings on the game when it comes out.

Cheers
Mike,

Haha, yeah well if it's busted, send it back for sure. Also, when deciding on a GPU, it may be worth noting that AMD recently released a 7790 (the performance is in between the 7770 and 7850). Also Nvidia released a 650ti "boost edition" (performance between the 650ti and 660. Very near and sometimes better than the 7850 depending on the game). Those cards may interest you and/or have a favorable impact on prices for a card to replace your GTS450. Happy gaming!
heres what i think is wrong with the entire setup

-bulldozer is both power hungry and has underwhelming performance. it would have been a lot smart to use a 6300
-i would have gotten something like a m5a990x board but its ok
-ram should be ran in dual channel configs rather than a single stick
-the corsair vs550 is no where near new

as for the graphics card, i would get a 7850 1gb if you have the budget. its worth it

We're not sure how demanding Rome 2 will be since it's a long way from being released. We also don't know what resolution you are gaming. A 7770 is a good entry-level card and does great at resolutions below 1920x1080. It is however, pretty much minimum for running 1080 in very demanding games. As an example, you can see that the 7770 is adequate to run Crysis 3 on low settings @1080 (but struggles with anything higher): http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crysis-3-performance-benchmark-gaming,3451-4.html

Keep in mind Crysis 3 is extremely demanding and Rome 2 probably won't be nearly as demanding. Another thing to compare to is Shogun 2 (and the other games listed in this link) where you see the 7770 does pretty well: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/536

The system is already purchased but I might point out that your 1x4gb of RAM won't run in dual-channel which is something you definitely want. You need a minimum of two sticks of RAM to run in dual-channel. A better config would have been 2x2gb of RAM. Same capacity, but dual-channel. Luckily RAM is pretty cheap, I would encourage you to buy another stick of the same RAM to run in dual-channel or even better see if you can change your order to 2x2gb.

When comparing prices, understand that there is a big difference between the 7770 and 7850 in terms of performance. Depending on your budget and gaming resolution, I would encourage you to shop around for a 7850 1gb instead of the 7770. But the Total War series scales well across a range of different performance. A 7770 will run Rome 2, I'm just not sure you'd get high settings at 1080 with it. A 7850 will do much better.

Hi Thanks for the replies,

I think I will purchase another 4gb ram stick of the same brand soon.

And perhaps wait for the 7850 to be lower in price and use my old gts450 for now, I know its probably not a big boost? But I im not loaded and as you can see the system has a budget in mind.

I think the 6300 cpu was an extra £30 ish so I wanted to save as much money up as possible for the gfx card.

Luckily I only use a res of around 1280x720 or slightly higher so I should be fine with higher settings?

In the past I have avoided large battle with lots of units to increase performance hopefully I wont now lol.

What does you think about the case? It has 3 fans and filters etc?

And also the PSU looks like its skimped on so maybe its not the best but at least its branded?

Many thanks for replies,

Mike

Given your resolution, a 7770 should be fine for your needs, like I said earlier, it isn't spectacular but good enough for your res. Trying your existing GTS450 is a good idea - it's definitely weaker than a 7770, but I'd see how it works out and then decide on an upgrade (but you probably won't notice much difference at all if you have already been using the GTS450 in the past). But given that resolution and a limited budget, the 7770 is a pretty good choice. And your PSU is fine, no worries.

EDIT: And the case is fine, good cooling, no worries.

Thanks for reassuring comments,

Now fingers crossed it comes on time and not damaged as some reviews have suggested for these types of companies.

Then again most people write reviews when things go wrong.
