Years ago I built my first system with Abit IP35pro, Western Digital SATA HD, Windows Vista, etc. The build went without a hitch and was great for years. Last night I decided to vaccuum the inside of dust. Did it before without event but now system hangs on boot. Did it with power off but plug in, thinking the ground connection would be good. It hangs after ACPI Controller irq9 and wants to boot from CD. I was afraid I perhaps zapped my bios??? After looking for anything loose and verifying power to my hd and trying a different sata cable, I put in my original Windows installation DVD. Message changed to press enter to boot from cd/dvd and a few seconds later it booted from my actual Hard Drive since all my files and desktop showed up. No reinstallation took place. Seemed like system saw the DVD but then was directed to boot as normal. Trying it again without the Windows DVD repeats the problem. I could only boot with the DVD in. Was too late to continue last night. Going to work now. Any ideas?? I'll check back after work.. Thanks.

First dribble... I like to try a lot of things for the experience - I am a master of nothing. So I built one computer. When I built it, I researched the heck out of what was hot at the time, learned from others online and surprisingly had a great build experience. Then I went on to be just a computer user and forgot 99% of the stuff I learned when putting this together. Came home tonight to simply go into my bios and check settings - See, I even forgot how to do that even though it's on the start up screen - hit delete - duh! It somehow replaced my boot by cd spot with boot by seagate drive - which is an external drive I added for automatic backups. How this happened during the vaccuuming - I have no idea. I replaced the order with, boot by floppy first (yes, I insisted on installing a flopply drive in my build although I don't think I ever used it), followed by cd/dvd drive and finally by hard drive and I'm back in action. And thanks for answering mi!ez. I'm next going to try that sfc /scannow just because it seems like a good idea in case I have any corrupt system files.
