wireless repeater error after transfering big files

I'm using a wireless repeater to extend the range of my wireless N home network. Everything is perfectly fine but one problem. If I transfer a very big file from 1 PC to another, the connection between the main router and the repeater is disconnected. The only way to resolve it is by resetting the repeater. Is it common? or what can I do to fix this?

I've tried channel 1, 6, and 11. Every one of them gave me the same result. It was disconnected :-(. I found one solution is by limiting the transfer limit. My router and repeater support up to 300Mbps, however if I want to stay connected all the time, the maximum speed is only 90Mbps. If I set the maximum speed more than 90Mbps, the connection between repeater and router will definitely disconnect by itself :-(.

tried both channels just now, but still didn't work. I tried to move the repeater to the first floor, and it has never been disconnected. Probably the problem lies within the distribution of the signal. I put my router on the first floor and the repeater is on the second floor. The big files that I'm transferring is within 2 computers on the first floor. Probably the router on the first floor send bigger signal on the first floor to make sure that the file transfer is going fast and lower the signal to the second floor. Well, that's just my opinion

Are you also matching the channel width as well. Try selecting either the 20mhz or the 40mhz width and not have it set to auto.

Here's how to do that with your TP-Link TL-WA801N
Wireless settings>Channel Width>40Mhz
Wireless settings>Channel Width>20Mhz

Please make sure that your router and the TP-Link TL-WA801N use the same setting for this.

Hi, remixedcat, I already tried both of them. And the result was still the same (disconnected). Probably it is hardware problem from TP-Link, since they are so cheap. I'm using TP-Link TL-WR841N for the router. Do you have any other option that I can try? If not, I guess what I can do right now is to limit the transfer speed or buy a powerline wireless extender. :-(

if you would please do a hardware reset on BOTH the repeater and the router to see if it's not a problem with your router not liking the extended network and see if this helps. Please reconfig both to use the 40mhz mode when completed. Let us know your progress.

Hi remixedcat,
I did it just now. I also repeat all the steps above as you told me, by changing the channel and also the bandwidth. And still no luck :-(.
BTW, thank you for all your help. I think I will just limit the speed of my network or buy the powerline wireless extender later on. :p

Hi Remixedcat,
I now solved my problem by exchanging my router and access point. Now I connect my modem to my access point and setup my router into a WDS repeater. Thank God my router has a WDS repeater function :p.
So I think my access point has a problem on maintaining the stable connection with the hotspot using its WDS repeater function.
Thank you for your help :p
