I am going to do clean install from windows 8 down to windows 7. The OS is going onto my SSD so it will be formatted BUT can I leave my HDD alone that has steam, uplay, origin on it so I don't lose my game saves or have to worry about backing them up?

Solution
Save the entire steamapps folder somewhere else. Your game saves are in that. Once you have everything reinstalled, if your game saves don't transfer, find them in that saved location and move them over.
I know there's a backup and restore function for games in steam(backup, reinstall OS, Install Steam client, and restore games). Origin and Uplay probably have something similar.

I also have read where people installed the clients to their original location(on your HDD), and the games picked up without having to re-install them.

It takes up to much room. Can I do just the game saves if I find them?

many of the saved games are in your My Documents folder - others stay in the game folder. There is a user state migration tool that will help you backup your documents and profile settings.

When you install to a SSD, there are tweaks and optimizations you can do to save space on your SSD. What you really want to do is put the OS, and a few apps and games on the SSD, and everything else on the HDD. Games don't benefit much from the SSD other than quick load times for levels. There is a tool(Steam mover) that will enable you to easily move games between the HDD and SSD(it creates junction points).

You do want to backup everything you need off the HDD, and delete everything else (preferably format the partition) but like you said you need to put the backups somewhere. You could create the backups on the HDD itself, and then install the OS on the SSD (unplug the HDD during install). then copy the backup files to the SSD, format the HDD, and copy the backup files back to the HDD and then do the restore to the HDD.

Still can not do that. I have a 120 GB ssd and backing up my steam needs 190gb. So can I simply find my game saves (which I did) put them on a flash drive then once I'm done reinstalling steam and all my games again, just put the saves back in the folders they belong?
