Hey Guys!

I recently upgraded my rig "frankenstein" (pII x4 925 on AM2+, 4GB DDR2 w sli'd 9800GT's) to an i5 3570k + 7870 + 16GB DDR3 on an asrock extreme4.

Now I have only been on the computer scene for about 5 years and my first rig "franky" was a custom build from a local store that I would have changed completely If I had known what I was doing. (it was originally an AthlonIIx2 on AM2, 2GB DDR2 + 8600GT).
Along the way a psu and HDD died, I bought a new (2nd hand) mobo, changed processors and added ram, new video cards and changed cases: hence I called him franky. Over this time I have gained alot of knowlegde about various components etc

My current rig is my first complete self build. I tried to carry over as many components as possible eg PSU, Case, Optical drive, wireless card and HDD's.

My main HDD is a WD green 1TB. Probabaly not the best for gaming and such, wouldn't have bought it when I did if I had any clue. Now, SSD's have dropped in price quite significantly and I am now approacing the point where I am investigating my options.

Despite all that I have learned over ther last 5 years of mucking around inside my comp and frequent visits to Toms (much <3) I honeslty have no idea how to choose a good ssd. Ideally it would store my OS and a few games so nothing too big (and expensive).

I live in New Zealand and this is where I shop:

Any reccomendations w/ reasons would be appreciated

p.s I game alot.

Hi :)

I sell SSD`s in my shops....

The honest answer to this is easy...

You choose an SSD on PRICE and SIZE....

The more expensive and bigger the better....

You will get lots of opinions about WHICH make....but they are ALL roughly the same as long as you buy the latest generation....which brings you back to size/price...lol

The ONLY difference you will see in games is a much improved LOAD TIME between levels...an SSD will NOT give one single frame more...

I am a gamer as well...this is my graphics card... which WOULD improve your fps lol... http://www.powercolor.com/us/products_features.asp?id=423

All the best Brett :)

any of the OCZ Vertex 4 SSD's will do (I would get the 256GB)- no SSD will impact gaming other than loading a level faster. Overall system performance will be night and day difference from your current HDD. I just upgraded from the boot drive in my sig to the V4 256GB and can notice a slight increase in response.
