Recently My laptop fell and I thouight my HDD was destroyed. I took out the HDD and plugged it into an external case(Hornetter). I was shocked to see all my data files were on there and working, I could view everything, like a giant USB. Today I plug it in, it makes the little noise signaling it's been recognized but no window pops up. It doesn't show up in my computer and when I unplug it, a window pops up and says I need to format the disk. A lot of stuff on this HDD i cannot just redownload or get back, can someone please help?

-David

P.S. I went to device manager and I saw no flags or exclamation marks or anything out of the ordinary.

Turn off the PC, unplug the drive from the PC, and the power cord from the external drive, wait 2-5 minutes.

Now turn on the PC and go to the desktop, plug in the drives power cord, then USB cable.

Let me know if that works.

Check disk management and let me know if it's not there either.

Try using this on it: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

You will need to recover the files, then format the drive.

Using this thing will allow me to take the data from the HDD and save it on a different computer before I format?
