AMD 3700+ Clawhammer

Can i put a mobile s754 AMD 3700+ "Clawhammer" 2.4 GHz cpu in a desktop which will take a s754 AMD 3700+ "Clawhammer"2.4 GHZ CPU? The only listed differences I came across were Part #... Power consumption and different operating temps, (cooler in the mobile version). The mobile part # was also more available and cheaper. I found that to be surprising.

if the chipset is the same, which it seems to be, there should be no problem. look at the pin number, if its the same, then you should be golden.

i had a quick look on wikipedia, seems to be the same specs, except wattage is variable, so it say different power management, just have to make sure your motherboard supports it, even if its the same socket there may be bios incompatabilities or something.

all you would have to do is take an older cpu and flash the bios. Then itd work.

I found that the Chipset 760/964 is compatible with either. Wikipedia lists the mobile AMD 64 3700 2.4GHZ Clawhammer as a Desktop replacement. I have not seen it referred to as that anywhere else however. I am gett ing another computer and I am just wanting to spruce up this old one of mine to give to my dad. I ordered the 2 gig of memory to max that out but want him to have a better processor than the 1.8 Sempron that is currently in here to support the type of games he plays and to watch video on. I appreciate your input. I will need to research flashing a BIOS as that is something I have never done.
