I am going to be playing at 1280 x 1024
  3. Then defo get the 650ti boost it will murder all modern games at that res.
  4. The resolution is good for a 650ti. If it were 1920x1080 then i'd say 7850.

    You will smoke those games.

You just made things tougher to say. You have a dual core CPU, but the decision (bottlenecking or not) comes down to what games you want to play. If you said Battlefield 3 then yes. If you want WoW or SimCity then you'd be safe.

so should i spend an extra 60 euro and get a phenom ii x4 965 instead
  9. Hang on. A Phenom x4 would require a new motherboard AND cpu. ($150+)

You should try to get a i3 (AMD is for overclockers- but they are great) and then add a 650ti boost.

I have played Skyrim and Far Cry 3..they are GPU intensive....meaning you gotta spend a lot on your GPU for High settings. My CPU (i5 quad core) runs low on those games compared to BF3.

    What is your motherboard?

my mobo is a asus p8b75-m lx

So...you can only use Intel chips, not AMD chips on it.
If you wanted a Phenom X4 then you would have to buy a new motherboard too.

yea, i'm sorry for the mixup.
Tom's hardware did a very similar build to this. Their $500 build had a g850 and a 7850.
  13. id say stick to your pentium dual core for now. i too have a pentium sandy bridge and far cry 3 and skyrim did not lag much at all on my setup. so just get a new gpu for now

ok then in the future i guess i will get an i5 and a decent cooler

Far Cry 3 isn't tough on my quad i5. However, it pushes the GPU a lot. No game heats up my GPU more than Far Cry 3. You'll be ok with a 7850 for now, but maybe next year you might want to upgrade to an i5 quad core.

BTW, Dead Island is another great game to try out and it isn't too tough on the CPU.

The comment about a Tom's $500 build: The G850 handled games better than I would have expected.

  16. Right now, the Radeon HD
    7850 2GB offers equivalent performance
per dollar to the GeForce GTX 650 Ti
It consumes less power, as well,
which makes it easier to cool quietly.
Last, but not least, it comes with a much
    more tantalizing game bundle: Tomb
Raider and BioShock Infinite . Given
those factors alone, the Radeon looks like
    the better choice
  17. Both of those cards are total overkill for 1280x1024, get the 650 Boost and put the $50 saving towards a better monitor.

yea i think i will get the 7850 and sell maybe two of the games(it comes with bioschock, tomb raider and sleeping dogs.
This is going to be my final build
Cpu: intel g2020 ivy bridge @ 2.9 ghz
    Motherboard: asus p8b75-m lx
Gpu: Xfx core edition hd 7850 2gb
    Ram: 8gb kingston ram
    Psu: ocz corestream 500w
    Is this a decent build
  19. The CPU might be a bit weak for some modern games, is there any way you can stretch to an i3?

the i3 would cost me like 80 more
  21. Best answer
the i3 is not worth extra 80. either save up for an i5 or stay with pentium
  22. If were comparing similar cards then were comparing the 650Ti Boost 1Gb to the 7850 1GB. In which the 7850 costs 180$ and the 650Ti w/Boost costs 150$. So how in the world could anyone recommend a 7850 when the 650Ti has better performance PLUS it's 30$ cheaper. Not to mention you can get a 650Ti boost 2GB for less than a 7850 1GB. Come on now people. Think about it a bit.

Yeah, IF your interested in the 2 free games you get then it might make sense. But I think the 650Ti Boost also offers some free stuff with it.

If you like 3D gaming and you like PhysX and you like having driver updates once a month sometimes, then you'll want to go with Nvidia. If you don't game in 3D, don't care about PhysX, and don't mind sometimes going a while without an update, and you like some free games AMD offers, go with AMD. Although AMD did get better with the updates they still aren't as good as Nvidia. And sometimes this will put you not getting the best performance from your card until your done playing the game.

The day before Bioshock Infinate came out I had a driver update for it. And because of this I know I'm getting the best performance in this game I could get..
  25. If you don't care about free games but want a killer card.
This Asus 660 is on sale for $169. Awesome deal and it is faster than a 650 Ti Boost and 7850.

I've never seen any reviews about this 650 ti by Gaiward. It is not in the US market, so I can't comment.
I think it is a small company and I would not feel good about their quality. I would pick a big company and
make sure it has a good warranty.
